These collected papers by Werner Eck discuss the question of how the numerous regional societies and specific imperial populations in the Imperium Romanum were influenced by imperial politics in the areas of religion, language, family, law, and even in burial customs, taking very different aspects into account. These changes were closely connected to the transformation and expansion of the imperial administration.
